Born at Geneva, New York. Enlisted 1 Sep 1861 as a Private in the 1st Iowa Cavalry, Company L. Mustered in 24 Sep at Burlington, Des Moines County, Iowa. Discharged 4 Jan 1862. Military pension and other records report that he also served in Company H, 14th U.S. Infantry but his dates of service cannot be confirmed. He married Amelia Durfee in 1863. A resident of Minnesota when he enlisted in Company D, 1st Minnesota Heavy Artillery at Ashland, Dodge County, Minnesota. Mustered in 15 Oct 1864 as a Private at Rochester, Olmstead County, Minnesota. Promoted to Commissary Sergeant 18 Nov 1864 and transferred to Field and Staff, 1st Minnesota Heavy Artillery. Discharged 9 Oct 1865 at St. Paul, Ramsey County, Minnesota while absent from the Regiment. After his service he remained in Minnesota and by 1870 was residing at Rochester, Olmstead County, Minnesota where he worked as a painter. By 1880 he relocated to Eau Claire, Eau Claire County, Wisconsin where he worked as patent right agent. By 1885 he was a resident of O'Brien County, Iowa where he farmed. He was a member of Hartley Post No. 451 at Hartley, O'Brien County, Iowa. He settled at Hillyard, Spokane County, Washington before 1910 where he worked as a painter. He was a charter member of the Nathan P. Gregg Post No. 127 at Hillyard, Washington. He died at Spokane, Spokane County, Washington. His name is listed as Alanson Clark Robinson on some military pension and VA payment records.
