Prior to locating to Washington, he was a member of Chester A. Arthur Post No. 242 of Lawrence, Nuckolls County, Nebraska. He was a member of Nathan P. Gregg Post No. 127 of Hillyard, Spokane County, Washington. In 1917 he served as Post Commander. Later he transferred to Gen. J. L. Reno Post No. 47 of Spokane, Spokane County, Washington. According to his obituary, he was the last surviving member of Gregg Post No. 127.
