Born at Jefferson County, Pennsylvania. Married, a resident and farmer at Burgen, McLeod County, Minnesota when he enlisted at Saint Paul, Ramsey Cunty, Minnesota for three years' service. Mustered in 25 Feb 1864 as a Private at Saint Paul, Minnesota. Mustered out at Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky. After his service he returned to Burgen, Minnesota. He relocated to Pleasant Prairie, Spokane County, Washington about 1906 where he continued farming. He was a charter member of Nathan P. Gregg Post No. 127 of Hillyard, Spokane County, Washington. Later he transferred to Gen. J. L. Reno Post No. 47 of Spokane, Spokane County, Washington. He died at Spokane, Washington. Minnesota in the Civil and Indian Wars 1861-65 (1890) reports his enlistment date as 24 Feb 1861, contradicting original Minnesota enlistment and muster records, as well as the 1890 Veterans' Census.
