Born in Indiana. A resident of Martz, Clay County, Indiana when he enlisted in the 21st Indiana Infantry at Bowling Green, Clay County, Indiana. Mustered in as a Private in Company I on 24 Jul 1861. The regiment's designation was later changed to 1st Indiana Heavy Artillery. Re-enlisted as a Veteran Volunteer on 1 Jan 1864. Mustered out as a Corporal at Baton Rouge, East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. Died in Tacoma, Washington. He is buried in a G.A.R. section of the cemetery.
