Mustered in as a Private in Company H the same day he enlisted. Mustered out at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. A member of Luther C. Ladd Post No. 17 of Puyallup, Pierce County, Washington. Transferred to Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington on 14 Oct 1911. Died in Tacoma, Washington. He is buried in a G.A.R. section of the cemetery. His pension records and some of his military records spell his last name as "Ellwood".
