Promoted to Sergeant. On 4 Feb 1864 received notification at Culpepper, Virginia of his commission as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Colored Infantry effective 6 Feb 1864. Discharged on 4 Mar 1864 to accept his appointment. Reported 7 Mar 1864 to Camp William Penn, Pennsylvania, and was mustered in 8 Mar 1864 as 1st Lieutenant of Company H, 25th U.S. Colored Infantry. From 7 Sep to 9 Nov 1864 on detached special duty as convoy command of Company B to Florida. From 22 Dec 1864 to 28 Feb 1865 in command of Company H. From 6 Mar to 30 Apr 1865 on 20 days of furlough, followed by 20 days of medical leave. From 11 May to 10 Aug 1865 in command of Company C at Fort Barrancas, Florida. From 25 Aug to 12 Oct 1865 officially appointed Provost Marshall for Euchee Anna, Florida. Starting 21 Nov 1865 in command of Company A at Fort Barrancas, Florida. Mustered out at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. Died in Tacoma, Washington.
