Born in Caldwell County, Missouri. Enlisted in the 44th Missouri Infantry for one year at Chillicothe, Livingston County, Missouri. Mustered in as a Private in Company G at St. Joseph, Buchanan County, Missouri on 9 Sep 1864. Absent without leave as of 14 Dec 1864. Returned 16 Jan 1865 under charges. On 3 Apr 1865 restored to duty without loss. Mustered out at Benton Barracks, Missouri. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. Served the Post as Quartermaster Sergeant in 1911 and 1912 and Commander in 1929. Died in Tacoma, Washington. He is buried in a G.A.R. section of the cemetery. His headstone indicates that his year of birth was 1846, contradicting his death certificate and pension records which list 1847 as his year of birth.
