Born in Michigan. A resident of Parma, Jackson County, Michigan when he enlisted in the 20th Michigan Infantry for three years at Parma, Michigan. Mustered in as a Corporal in Company E on 16 Aug 1862. Promoted to Sergeant on 4 Jun 1864. Taken prisoner 30 Jul 1864 near Petersburg, Virginia, and held until 26 Feb 1865. Promoted to 1st Sergeant on 13 Feb 1865. Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant on 17 May 1865. Mustered out and discharged at Delaney House, DC. Joined Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington by reinstatement on 27 Dec 1913. Died in Tacoma, Washington. He is buried in a G.A.R. section of the cemetery.
