Born in Pennsylvania. A resident of Bridgeport, Saginaw County, Michigan when he enlisted in the 29th Michigan Infantry for three years at East Saginaw, Saginaw County, Michigan. Mustered in as 1st Sergeant of Company D on 26 Aug 1864. Promoted to Sergeant Major and transferred to Field and Staff (F&S) on 7 Feb 1865. Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant of Company D on 7 Jul 1865 and mustered on 10 Aug 1865. Mustered out at Murfreesboro, Rutherford County, Tennessee. A member of G. K. Warren Post No. 63 of East Tawas, Iosco County, Michigan. He later became a member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. Died at his home in Tacoma, Washington. He is buried in a G.A.R. section of the cemetery.
