Born at Fulton, Kalamazoo County, Michigan. A resident of Pleasant Grove, Olmsted County, Minnesota when he enlisted for three years' service. Mustered in as a Private in the 2nd Minnesota Infantry the same day as his enlistment at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. He transferred 22 Oct 1863 to the Signal Corps, U.S. Army. He reenlisted in the Signal Corps 13 Feb 1864 and served until he was discharged, 14 Oct 1865. He resided at Olmsted County, Minnesota until at least 1870. He married Eunice Miriam Miller at Olmsted County, 25 Mar 1870. He was a resident of Coffey County, Kansas by 1875. Between 1880 and 1900 he resided in Montana and South Dakota, where he farmed. By 1904 he was a resident of Prosser, Benton County, Washington where he worked in real estate. He was a charter member of Maj. Johnson Post No. 114 at Prosser, Washington, serving the post as Adjutant in 1909. He eventually relocated to Sumner, Pierce County, Washington and then to Algona, King County, Washington. He was admitted to the Washington Soldiers Colony at Orting, Pierce County, Washington 11 Jun 1915. He died at the home of his daughter at Puyallup, Pierce County, Washington.
