John R Woodworth was born in Freeport, Illinois, son of John C and Rebecca Woodworth. John married Mary M. Hart (died on 27 Sep 1924 in Walla Walla, Washington. 1900 Census shows Lenna Woodworth as adopted daughter and 1910 Census shows her name as Lena R. Wray. 1930 Census shows John was 28 years of age at the first marriage. John R. Woodworth enlisted at the age of 19 at St. Charles, Minnesota and was mustered out at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Occupations: Farmer, laborer, hack driver, livery drayman. John was a G.A.R. member of Post 138 in Minnesota on 31 Mar 1886. He was also a member of E. M. Baker Post No. 33 of Fort Walla Walla, Walla Walla County, Washington. In 1891 he served as Post Senior Vice Commander. On 17 Mar 1893 he transferred to Abraham Lincoln Post No. 4 of Walla Walla.
