Born at Danville, Hendricks County, Indiana. A farmer and resident of Davis County, Iowa when he enlisted for three years' service. Mustered in as a Private, 7 Sep 1861 at Keokuk, Lee County, Iowa. Captured 1 May 1864 at Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He was held at POW Camp Groce, Hempstead, Texas and Camp Ford, Tyler, Texas until his parole in Dec 1864. He was exchanged in Jan 1865. Mustered out 1 Feb 1865 at Davenport, Scott County, Iowa. After his service he returned to Davis County, Iowa where he married Mary M. Quigly, 27 Dec 1866. By 1880 he relocated to Indian Creek, Mills County, Iowa. He was a member of Emerson Post No. 224 at Emerson, Mills County, Iowa. About 1884 he settled at Armada, Buffalo County, Nebraska where he farmed and served as a Justice of the Peace. By 1892 he was a resident of Dayton, Columbia County, Washington where he continued farming. He was a member of Alfred Sully Post No. 3. at Dayton where he served as Junior Vice Commander in 1910 and Quartermaster in 1914 and 1915. By 1916 he relocated to Lewiston, Nez Perce County, Idaho. He died at the home of his daughter at Payette, Payette County, Idaho.
