Enlisted in the 44th Ohio Infantry for three years. Mustered in as a Private in Company F at Camp Clark, Ohio on 25 Sep 1861. As a result of consolidation, he transferred to Company F, 8th Ohio Cavalry at Cincinnati, Hamilton County Ohio on 4 Jan 1864. Mustered out at the expiration of his term of service at Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio. A member of Root Post No. 58 of Denison, Crawford County, Iowa. He later became a member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. In 1884 he served as Junior Vice Commander of the Post. Died in Thurston County, Washington.
