Born in Stanton, Virginia. A resident of Marion County, Indiana when he enlisted in the 19th Indiana Infantry for three years at Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana. Mustered in as a Private in Company D the same day he enlisted. Re-enlisted as a Veteran Volunteer at Culpepper, Virginia on 31 Dec 1863, and transferred to Company I, 20th Indiana Infantry. Rendered supernumerary by the consolidation of the 7th, 14th, 19th, and 20th Regiments, he was mustered out near Petersburg, Virginia. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. Died at the Washington Soldiers Home at Orting, Pierce County, Washington.
