Born in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. A resident of Indiana County, Pennsylvania when he enlisted in the 135th Pennsylvania Infantry for nine months at Indiana, Indiana County, Pennsylvania. Mustered in as a Sergeant in Company I at Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania on 15 Aug 1862. Mustered out with his Company at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Enlisted in the U.S. Navy for one year at the Pittsburg, Pennsylvania Rendezvous on 3 Sep 1864 as a Landsman. On 10 Sep 1864 reported to the USS Great Western, the receiving ship at Cairo, Illinois. On 17 Sep 1864 he reported to the USS Rattler, followed by service aboard the USS Tyler, USS General Bragg, and USS Siren. He then reported to the USS Great Western, now the receiving ship at Mound City, Illinois, for his discharge from the U.S. Navy on 17 Aug 1865. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. Died in Tacoma, Washington. He is buried in a G.A.R. section of the cemetery.
