Born in Pennsylvania. A resident of Iola, Allen County, Kansas when he joined the 9th Kansas Cavalry. He received a commission as Surgeon, and was mustered in. Less than a year later he resigned his commission. According to his obituary he arrived in Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington Territory in 1876, and established the first medical practice in Tacoma. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. In 1889 served as Post Surgeon. Served as Medical Director of the Provisional Department of Washington Territory. At the 1st Encampment of the Department of Washington Territory he was elected Medical Director for 1883-84. He would later be elected as Department Medical Director for the 1887-88, 1888-89, 1889-90, and 1890-91 terms. According to his obituary he relocated to Vancouver, Clark County, Washington shortly after the Panic of 1893. Died in Vancouver, Washington.
