Summary
Born at Illinois. A resident of Marion County, Indiana when he enlisted at Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana. Mustered in, 20 Feb 1865, as a Private at Indianapolis, Indiana. Mustered out 5 Sep 1865 as a 1st Sergeant at Middle, Tennessee. A younger brother, William, enlisted in the 70th Indiana Infantry, Company G, 6 Aug 1862. After his service Gwinnup returned to Indiana where he married Anna S. Miller, 25 Oct 1865. The 1880 U.S. Census reports he was a resident of Montezuma, Parke County, Indiana and lists his occupation as a plasterer. He relocated to Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington Territory after 1880 where he was a member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Washington Territory. By 1889 he settled in Whatcom County, Washington Territory where he continued working as a plasterer. He died at Bellingham, Whatcom County, Washington.
