Born at Bradford County, Pennsylvania. He enlisted for three years' service, 1 Jan 1862, in Company K, 58th Pennsylvania Infantry at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Mustered in, 7 Jan 1862, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He transferred to Battery D, 4th U.S. Artillery at Suffolk, Virginia, 8 Nov 1862. Discharged at the expiration of his term of service. After his service, he relocated to Allegan County, Michigan by 1869 where he worked in a sawmill. He married Rhoda Woodruff, 24 Dec 1869, at Saugatuck, Allegan County, Michigan. He relocated to Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington Territory by 1881 where he was a charter member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Washington Territory. The 1890 Veterans' Census reports he was a resident of Bothell, King County, Washington. He eventually settled at Whatcom County, Washington where he died.
