Born in Wheeling, Virginia (now West Virginia). A resident of Hamilton, Hancock County, Illinois when he enlisted in the 16th Illinois Infantry for three years at Quincy, Adams County, Illinois. Mustered in as a Private in Company D the same day he enlisted. Discharged on a certificate of disability at Keokuk, Lee County, Iowa. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. On 24 Oct 1901 he was admitted to the Washington State Soldiers Home at Orting, Pierce County, Washington. Discharged at his own request on 29 Aug 1904. In Dec 1904 he was admitted to the Western Washington Hospital for the Insane at Fort Steilacoom, Pierce County, Washington where he died. He is buried in a G.A.R. section of the cemetery.
