Born in Ohio. A resident of Trenton, Henry County, Iowa when he enlisted in the 1st Iowa Cavalry for three years. Mustered in as a Private in Company E on 31 Jul 1861. Re-enlisted and re-mustered as a Veteran Volunteer on 24 Feb 1864. Mustered out at Austin, Texas. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. According to a newspaper article published on 30 May 1929, he was one of the 40 remaining members of Custer Post, which 20 years prior had a membership of more than 300. Died in Tacoma, Washington. Cemetery records show he is buried in Block RW 125-126, Row 1, Grave 12.
