Born in Illinois. He enlisted in the 41st Ohio Infantry for three years. Mustered in as a Private in Company D on 29 Oct 1861. Re-enlisted as a Veteran Volunteer. Promoted to Corporal on 1 Jul 1865. Mustered out with his Company at Camp Chase, Ohio. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. On 22 Oct 1902 admitted to the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers at Sawtelle, Los Angeles County, California, and discharged at his own request on 24 Sep 1907. He would be re-admitted to the Home and discharged at his own request five more times, with the last period being from 18 Apr 1923 to 3 Dec 1923. Died in Los Angeles, California.
