Born in Danville, Vermilion County, Illinois. A resident of Montgomery County, Indiana when he enlisted in the 135th Indiana for 100 days at Crawfordsville, Montgomery County, Indiana. Mustered in as a Private in Company H on 23 May 1864. Mustered out at Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. Served the Post as Sergeant Major in 1891. Admitted to the Washington State Soldiers Home at Orting, Pierce County, Washington on 3 May 1909. Discharged at his own request on 14 Apr 1910 to transfer to the Washington State Veterans Home at Retsil, Kitsap Couty, Washington. He and his wife were admitted to the Veterans Home on 16 Apr 1910. He died at the Veterans Home.
