Born in Pennsylvania. A resident of Somerset, Steele County, Minnesota when he enlisted in the 4th Minnesota Infantry. Mustered in as a Private in Company F the same day he enlisted. Re-enlisted as a Veteran Volunteer on 24 Feb 1864. Promoted to Sergeant. The Regiment marched in the Grand Review in Washington, DC on 24 May 1865. Mustered out at Louisville, Kentucky on 19 Jul 1865. Discharged with the Regiment at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. A member of Gen. Lyon Post No. 26 of Toledo, Lincoln County, Oregon. Served the Post as Officer of the Guard in 1887. Died at Toledo, Oregon.
