Born in Grant County, Wisconsin. Enlisted in the 1st Wisconsin Cavalry at Potosi, Grant County, Wisconsin. Mustered out at Edgefield, Tennessee. A member of Gen. James Shields Post No. 22 of Madison, Lake County, South Dakota. Transferred to Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington on 9 Apr 1910. In 1922 transferred to George H. Thomas Post No. 5 of Olympia, Thurston County, Washington. Apparently transferred to Custer Post No. 6, since according to a newspaper article published on 30 May 1929, he was one of the 40 remaining members of Custer Post, which 20 years prior had a membership of more than 300. On 27 Dec 1924 admitted to the Washington State Soldiers Home at Orting, Pierce County, Washington, and discharged at his own request on 19 Jan 1928. His application for re-admission to the Soldiers Home was approved on 17 Dec 1928 and was discharged at his own request on 19 Jan 1929. Died in Lacey, Thurston County, Washington.
