Born in Pennsylvania. A farmer when he enlisted as a Private in the 3rd Colorado Territory Infantry for three years at Montgomery, Colorado Territory. Jul-Aug 1863 on recruiting service. Mustered in Company G at Denver, Colorado Territory on 26 Aug 1863. Moved to St. Louis, Missouri for consolidation with the 2nd Colorado Territory Infantry to form the 2nd Colorado Territory Cavalry. Said consolidation occurred on 26 Nov 1863. Promoted to Sergeant in Company K. Mar-Apr 1864 on scout duty. Fall 1864 to 17 Feb 1865 assigned to duty at Kansas City, Missouri. Jan-Feb 1865 on extra daily duty as artilleryman. Mustered out with his Company at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas on 23 Sep 1865. A member of A. J. Smith Post No. 17 of Drain, Douglas County, Oregon. Served the Post as Officer of the Guard in 1884. On 9 Sep 1917 admitted to the Oregon Soldiers' Home at Roseburg, Douglas County, Oregon and dropped on 8 Nov 1918 for being away without leave for 90 days. Died at Drain, Oregon.
