Born in Massachusetts. A shoemaker and a resident of Boston, Massachusetts when he enlisted in the 3rd Massachusetts Cavalry for three years at Boston, Massachusetts. Mustered in as a Private the same day he enlisted. Promoted to Corporal on 16 Jun 1862. From 28 Feb 1863 to 30 Jun 1863 sick in hospital at Brashear City, Louisiana. Promoted to Sergeant on 1 Sep 1863. Mustered out at Boston, Massachusetts owing the Army $2.75 for a tent and 43 cents for a canteen on 5 Dec 1864. A member of A. J. Smith Post No. 17 of Drain, Douglas County, Oregon. Served the Post as Senior Vice Commander in 1884. Died in the Sutherlin Sanitarium, Sutherlin, Dougla County, Oregon.
