Born in Iowa. A resident of Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa when he enlisted in the 17th Iowa Infantry. Mustered in as a Private in Company K on 16 Apr 1862. Wounded slightly at Corinth, Mississippi on 4 Oct 1862 and wounded severely at Jackson, Mississippi on 14 May 1863. Re-enlisted and re-mustered as a Veteran Volunteer on 22 Apr 1864. Mustered out at Davenport, Iowa on 26 May 1865. A member of Donelson Post No. 26 of Sheridan, Yamhill County, Oregon. Served the Post as Quartermaster Sergeant in 1885. Died in Willamina, Yamhill County, Oregon.
