Born in Ohio. Enlisted in the 1st Northeast Cavalry, Missouri Home Guard for three months at Fairmont, Missouri on 16 Jun 1861. Mustered in as a Private in Company I the same day he enlisted. Discharged on 25 Oct 1861. Enlisted in the 2nd Missouri State Militia Cavalry for three years at Kahoka, Missouri. Mustered in as a Sergeant in Company D at Alexandria, Missouri on 17 Mar 1862. Promoted to Quartermaster Sergeant on 24 Jul 1862 and transferred to Field and Staff (F&S). Surgeon's letter of disability for rupture in groin issued on 24 Sep 1862. Transferred to Company C sometime during Sep-Oct 1862. Discharged on a Surgeon's Certificate of Disability as a Sergeant at Palmyra, Missouri. A member of Gen. Lyon Post No. 26 of Toledo, Lincoln County, Oregon. Served the Post as Officer of the Day in 1888. G.A.R. is inscribed on his headstone.
