Born in Hanover, Germany. Enlisted in the 4th U.S. Artillery for three years at Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. Discharged at the expiration of his term of service at Nashville, Tennessee. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. On 27 Jul 1896 admitted to the Washington State Soldiers Home at Orting, Pierce County, Washington where he died. The U.S. Army's Register of Enlistments indicates he served in Battery L, but his pension records, the Custer Post Roster, his Soldiers Home file, and his headstone all indicate he served in Battery I.
