Born in Sangamon County, Illinois. Enlisted in the 1st Oregon Infantry for three years at Dayton, Yamhill County, Oregon. Mustered in as a Private in Company B at Salem, Oregon the same day he enlisted. Nov 1864-Apr 1865 on detached service at Camp Russell, Oregon on daily duty herding government cattle. Reported for detached service at Fort Boise, Idaho Territory on 20 Jun 1865. Jul 1865-May 1866 on detached service at Camp Reed, Idaho Territory as Indian scout. Jun 1866 reported to Headquarters District of Boise and sent to Fort Vancouver, Washington Territory to be mustered out. Mustered out at Fort Vancouver, Washington Territory on 23 Jul 1866. A member of Donelson Post No. 26 of Sheridan, Yamhill County, Oregon. Served the Post as Quartermaster in 1885. Died at Sheridan, Oregon.
