DR. CURTISS PASSES AWAY
A Citizen of Puyallup and a Veteran of the Civil War--Death the Result of an Operation.
The Times Special Service.
PUYALLUP, Wash., Tuesday, Sept. 2.--Two deaths and one funeral occurred here on Sunday.
Dr. E. T. Curtiss died Sunday morning at 9 o'clock at the Fannie Paddock Hospital, where he underwent an operation four weeks ago. His age was sixty-four years and ten months. Dr. Curtiss was born in Ohio, and that remained his home until fifteen years ago, when he moved with his family to this city. Of the family, father, mother and three children, only one, Mrs. G. A. Thompson, of Gettysburg, remains. His son, Dr. Frank T. Curtiss, with whom he was associated in dentistry, died five years ago, and his wife passed away two years later. Dr. Curtiss went to make his daughter in Gettysburg a Christmas visit and was taken ill with inflammatory rheumatism and never recovered from it, having been a great sufferer the most of the time since until the last few weeks. His symptoms all seemed favorable after the operations, but his age left him without the necessary vitality for recovery, and he passed peacefully away at last.
Dr. Curtiss had been one among the active citizens of the town for so many years that he will be missed by many who have been his colaborers and associates during this time. He was an elocutionist of considerable merit, having coached many a company of actors and reciters. His funeral was held this forenoon at 10 o'clock in the Grand Army hall, and was conducted by the G. A. R. Rev. W. H. Gibson officiated.
Dr. Curtiss served for over three years in the Civil War as captain of the Ninth [sic] O. V. V. I.
