Born in Falls Village, Litchfield County, Connecticut. A resident of Eaton County, Michigan when he enlisted in the 2nd Michigan Cavalry for three years at Eaton Rapids, Michigan. Mustered in as a Private in Company B on 2 Oct 1861. Re-enlisted as a Veteran Volunteer at Mossy Creek, Tennessee on 5 Jan 1864 and promoted to Corporal. Re-mustered on 29 Mar 1864. Promoted to Sergeant on 18 Mar 1865. Mustered out at Macon, Georgia on 17 Aug 1865. A member of John A. Norris Post No. 22 of Cove, Union County, Oregon. Served as Post Commander in 1903. On 22 Mar 1917 admitted to the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers at Sawtelle, Los Angeles County, California and discharged at his own request on 28 Jul 1919 and re-admitted on 26 Nov 1920 and discharged at his own request on 21 Apr 1921. Died in Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon.
