Born in Randolph County, Indiana. A resident of Jalapa, Grant County, Indiana when he enlisted in the 34th Indiana Infantry for three years at Anderson, Indiana. Mustered in as a Sergeant in Company K on 10 Oct 1861. Discharged on a surgeon's certificate of disability. A charter member of Geo. G. Sykes Post No. 28 of Elkton, Douglas County, Oregon. Served the Post as Senior Vice Commander in 1884 and Junior Vice Commander in 1885. On 30 Sep 1913 admitted to the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers at Sawtelle, Los Angeles County, California and discharged at his own request on 21 Jun 1916. On 16 Oct 1917 re-admitted to the Soldiers Home and discharged at his own request on 18 Apr 1923. Died at his home in Ashland, Jackson County, Oregon.
