Born in Western Islands (Azores), Portugal. Enlisted in the 1st Oregon Infantry for three years at Oregon City, Oregon. Mustered in as a Private in Company E at Portland, Oregon the same day he enlisted. According to the Official Records, Company E, 1st Oregon Infantry was stationed at Fort Colville, Washington Territory on 30 Jun 1865. Mustered out at Fort Vancouver, Washington Territory on 22 Nov 1865. A member of Gen. Lyon Post No. 26 of Toledo, Lincoln County, Oregon. Served the Post as Adjutant in 1887. Later became a member of Gen. Compson Post No. 22 of St. Johns (Portland), Multnomah County, Oregon. He was serving as Post Commander at the time of his death. Died in Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon.
