Born at New York. Married and a resident of Eau Claire, Eau Claire County, Wisconsin when he enlisted. Mustered at Madison, Dane County, Wisconsin. Captured, 13 Jun 1864, and imprisoned at Petersburg, Virginia. Mustered out at Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky. After his service he returned to Wisconsin. By 1880 he was a resident of Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon where he worked as a saloon keeper. After the death of his first wife, he married Mary Elizabeth Keegan about 1881 at Oregon. By 1884 he was a resident of Pierce County, Washington Territory. The 1885 Washington Territorial Census lists his residence as Pierce County, Washington Territory and his occupation as carpenter. He was a charter member of Luther C. Ladd Post No. 17 of Puyallup, Pierce County, Washington, serving the post as Sergeant Major in 1884 and Officer of the Guard in 1888. He settled at Geneva (now part of Bellingham), Whatcom County, Washington about 1892 where he worked as an optician and later as a mail carrier. He died at Geneva, Washington.
