Born in Dearborn County, Indiana. A resident of Cumberland County, Illinois when he enlisted in the 5th Illinois Cavalry for three years at Prairie City, McDonough County, Illinois. Mustered in as a Private in Company I at Camp Butler, Illinois on 8 Nov 1861. Mustered out as a Sergeant at Vicksburg, Mississippi at the expiration of his term of service. A member of Luther C. Ladd Post No. 17 of Puyallup, Pierce County, Washington. Served as Post Commander in 1904 and Chaplain in 1907. Admitted to the Washington State Soldiers Home at Orting, Pierce County, Washington on 8 Jan 1908. Died at his home in Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington.
