Born in Union County, Indiana. A resident of Union County, Indiana when he enlisted in the 9th Indiana Cavalry for three years at Liberty, Union County, Indiana. Mustered in as a Private in Company D on 18 Dec 1863. Promoted to 1st Sergeant on 16 Jan 1864. Left Indiana 3 May 1864. Garrison duty at Pulaski, Tennessee until 23 Nov 1864. In Campaign against Hood in Tennessee beginning 1 Dec 1864. In Battle of Nashville and in the running fight following. Struck on the chin by a spent ball at Sugar Creek on 26 Dec 1864. Commissioned as Captain on 5 Mar 1865. Mustered in as Captain of Company D on 1 May 1865. Mustered out with the Regiment at Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. Served the Post as Sergeant Major in 1894. Elected a Companion of the First Class in the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States (MOLLUS) through the Oregon Commandery on 12 Jun 1889. Transferred to the Washington Commandery as a Charter Member on 31 Dec 1890. Served the Washington Commandery as Senior Vice Commander (1893-1894), Commander (1894-1895), Recorder (1903-1906), and Council (1911-1912 & 1913-1915). Died in Tacoma, Washington.
