Born in New Alexandra, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. Enlisted in the 15th Illinois Infantry for three years at Freeport, Stephenson County, Illinois. Mustered in as a Private in Company B the same day he enlisted. Promoted to Regimental Quartermaster and transferred to Field and Staff (F&S) on 4 Sep 1861. Resigned. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. On 13 Jul 1916 he was admitted to the Washington State Veterans Home at Retsil, Kitsap County, Washington where he died.
