Born in Greenock, Scotland. A resident of Bradford County, Pennsylvania when he enlisted in the 141st Pennsylvania Infantry for three years. Mustered in as a Private in Company K on 26 Aug 1862. On 2 Jul 1863 he was wounded at the Battle of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Promoted to Corporal on 1 May 1864. On 6 May 1864 wounded during the Battle of the Wilderness, Virginia. Mustered out with his Company at Washington, DC. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. Served as Post Chaplain in 1907, 1909, 1910, 1911, 1914 and 1915. In 1913, according to his obituary, he attended the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. On 30 Mar 1917 he was admitted to the Washington State Veterans Home at Retsil, Kitsap County, Washington where he died.
