Born in Lawrence County, Indiana. A resident of Macomb, McDonough County, Illinois when he enlisted in the 137th Illinois Infantry for 100 days at Macomb, Illinois. Mustered in as 1st Sergeant of Company C at Camp Wood, Quincy, Adams County, Illinois on 5 Jun 1864. Mustered out at Springfield, Sangamon County, Illinois. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. In 1889 he became a charter member of Phil H. Sheridan Post No. 44 of Tacoma, Washington, serving as the first Commander of the Post. Served as a member of the Council of Administration for the Department of Washington and Alaska, Grand Army of the Republic for 1890-1891. In 1900 elected as a Superior Court Judge for Pierce County, Washington serving from 1901 to 1907. Died in Tacoma, Washington.
