Born in England. A resident of Keokuk, Lee County, Iowa when he enlisted in the 45th Iowa Infantry for 100 days. Mustered in as a Private in Company C on 25 May 1864. Mustered out at the expiration of his term of service at Keokuk, Iowa. Joined Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington on 27 Apr 1912. Admitted to the Washington State Soldiers Home at Orting, Pierce County, Washington on 8 Dec 1917 and honorably discharged on 27 Jun 1918. Admitted to the Washington State Veterans Home at Retsil, Kitsap County, Washington on 8 Jul 1918. Died while on furlough from the Veterans Home in Tacoma, Washington. He is buried in a G.A.R. section of the cemetery.
