Born in Baltimore, Maryland. A resident of North Yarmouth, Cumberland County, Maine when he enlisted in the 25th Maine Infantry for nine months on 10 Sep 1862. Mustered in as a Private in Company G on 29 Sep 1862. Mustered out and honorably discharged at Portland, Cumberland County, Maine on 10 Jul 1863. Enlisted in the 1st District of Columbia Cavalry for three years at Portland, Maine on 25 Jan 1864. Mustered in as a Private in Company L at Augusta, Kennebec County, Maine on 9 Feb 1864. Promoted to Corporal on 20 Feb 1864. Transferred to Company B of the 1st Maine Cavalry on 14 Feb 1865. Mustered out and honorably discharged at Augusta, Maine. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. Later joined Luther C. Ladd Post No. 17 of Puyallup, Pierce County, Washington. Admitted to the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers at Sawtelle, Los Angeles County, California on 27 Apr 1897. On 21 Nov 1901 transferred from the Pacific Branch to the Eastern Branch at Togus, Kennebec County, Maine where he died. Some records list his first name as "Alfred".
