Born in Norway. Enlisted in the 104th New York Infantry for three years at Tarrytown, New York as a substitute for Elbert S. N. Wilson of North Salem, New York. Mustered in as a Private in Company D the same day he enlisted. The Regiment marched in the Grand Review in Washington, DC on 23 May 1865. Mustered out with his Company near Washington, DC on 17 Jul 1865. A member of Donelson Post No. 26 of Sheridan, Yamhill County, Oregon. Served the Post as Senior Vice Commander in 1885.
