Born in New York. A farmer when he enlisted in the 1st Oregon Cavalry for three years at Oakland, Douglas County, Oregon. Mustered in as a Private in Company C on 12 Mar 1862. 9 Jun 1862 on detached service at Camp Clackamas, Oregon. 28 Jul 1863 arrested and confined for stealing public property. Released on 13 Aug 1863. 28 Jun to Sep 1864 on detached service, expedition to Owyhee. 24 Sep to Oct 1864 on daily duty as hospital cook. Nov 1864 to Jan 1865 on detached service at Camp Baker, Oregon. Discharged at the expiration of his term of service at Fort Vancouver, Washington Territory. A member of A. J. Smith Post No. 17 of Drain, Douglas County, Oregon. Later joined Geo. G. Sykes Post No. 28 of Elkton, Douglas County, Oregon as a charter member. Served the Post as Officer of the Guard in 1884 and 1885. Died in Douglas County, Oregon.
